Tennis Players Fear Even Before Playing Against Serena Williams: Victoria Azarenka

Victoria Azarenka believes that female tennis players have a tendency to take a psychological beating as they accept defeat even before squaring off against World No. 1 Serena Williams on court. Interestingly, this comes just ahead of the duo’s meeting in the finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

The 26-year-old Azarenka, a former top-ranked tennis player herself, insists that unlike the rest of her counterparts – who fear locking horns with Williams – she competes for moments like these, and that it is beyond her understanding as to why do the rest of the players fear the American powerhouse.

“I see many players being defeated even before jumping on to the track,” Puntodebreak quoted Azarenka. “I have no fear of anyone. I face these kinds of challenges. Maybe others avoid them, but I live for moments like these,” added the Belarusian, who trails 3-17 to Williams ahead of the Sunday’s final.

Meanwhile, the Indian Wells final between Azarenka and Williams is scheduled to be heald at 11:00 am local time, and precedes the men’s singles final between Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Canada’s Milos Raonic, which will kick off not before 1:00 pm local time.
