In the midst of a three-game winning streak after many declared their imminent demise when they started out a mediocre 2-2, the New England Patriots have been hit by a long list of debilitating injuries that could significantly impact their chances to make a long playoff run.

Emerging defensive end Chandler Jones, who was thought to be out for around a month with a hip injury, is now set to miss at least six games according to the Boston Herald, and could miss the entire season.

Jones, who leads the Patriots with 4.5 of their 18 total sacks, injured his hip during the team’s Week 7 win over the reeling New York Jets

Losing Jones for the season would undoubtedly be a huge blow to the Patriots’ defense. . The brother of UFC champion Jon Jones, he provides a fast and athletic presence on the outside of the Patriots’ defensive line.

New England lost their defensive anchor, middle linebacker Jerod Mayo, for the season due to a serious knee injury, and they also lost running back Stevan Ridley to a similar ailment.

They can ill afford to lose Jones, yet it appears that he will be back in Week 13 or 14 as a best case scenario.

Thankfully for New England, they play in the relatively talent-shallow AFC East, where Patriots leader Tom Brady has to beat Ryan Tannehill, Kyle Orton, and Geno Smith on a regular basis. That’s something that the Patriots have been able to do with ease for quite some time now, and after a bit of a rocky start, the Pats are on track to do just that.

However, they’re going to need their defense playing their best if they want to get past teams like the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs, and they’re already down two of their key cogs.

Will Brady and his arsenal of offensive weapons be able to make up for the loss against the Chicago Bears’ weak defense this weekend?
