Netherlands vs Costa Rica Preview & Team News:

Holland’s late win against Mexico is being regarded as the lucky escape, with Robben winning a controversial penalty in the last minute of injury time and Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored to make win the game for dutch. Van Gaal started the game with 5-3-2 formation but after Mexico took the lead he changed the system to more conventional 4-3-3 which ultimately paid dividends.

Van Gaal Speaking after the match stated ” humidity played a role, but we were fitter and fresher than the Mexicans and players responded well to change in 4-3-3 system.

Huntelaar replaced Van Persie in 76th minute of the match but he is unlikely to start against Costa Rica with Holland most probably starting with 4-3-3 formation, Robben and Memphis Depay playing either side of Van Persie while Nigel De Jong is doubtful for this game having picked up injury early in mexico game and he is expected to be replaced by Clasie in the defensive midfield role.

Possible Starting Lineups:

We will keep updating this page with latest team news from both camps, here is how I expect both teams to lineup in the quarter final clash.

Match Predictions:

Holland got their lucky escape against Mexico but that can not overshadow the promise they have shown so far in the competition having beaten Spain 5-1, Australia 3-2 and Chile 2-0. They are the leading goalscorers in the competition and I expect them to beat Costa Rica convincingly on 5th july by atleast two goals. So I am going with 3-1 win for the netherlands.
