Some of the bigwigs from the world of football graced their presence at the FIFA Best Awards held at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Monday.

Among the ones to walk the green carpet were Luka Modric, who ended Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s reign to win the best player award, and Manchester United’s David de Gea and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe to name a few.

Modric, who plies his trade for Real Madrid, received 29.05 per cent of votes, well ahead of former teammate Ronaldo (19.08) and Liverpool’s Mo Salah (11.23)

“It’s a great honour and a beautiful feeling to stand here with this amazing trophy,” Modric was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

“This trophy is not just mine, it’s for all my Real Madrid teammates, for all my teammates from the Croatia national team, for all the coaches that I have played for.

“Without them this would not be possible and thank you a lot to them. This trophy is also for my family, without whom I would not be the player and person that I am.”

Meanwhile, Brazil’s Marta Vieira da Silva took home the top honour in women’s division.

Salah won the Puskas award (best goal of the year) for his strike against Everton earlier this year.

Real Madrid and Belgium stopper Thibaut Courtois won the best goalkeeper award.
