In the capital One cup 2013 quarter finals Sunderland beat Chelsea to book their place in the semifinal of the league cup and they will be taking on either Manchester United or City in the semifinals. Chelsea started the match so strong but failed to take their chances which came their way it took a good play on the fight wing as De Bryun put a nice low cross which was bundled home by Lampard with the deflection of Lee Cattermole.

Sunderland up their game in the 2nd half and they scored in the dying moments of the normal play when Fabio Borini scored to take the game to extra time at stadium of light. in the extra time game was open and any team could have won the game but Sunderland looked more determined and they put on a good shift which was rewarded with a late late goal from korean player Ki Sung-Yueng to knock chelsea out of the competition.
