Twitter goes crazy as West Indies humiliate Pakistan in World Cup

With the likes of Chris Gayle and Andre Russell looking well in their prime, many predicted West Indies to be the darkhorses of the 2019 World Cup.

On Friday, in their opening game against Pakistan, they proved they are competent to do just that as they pulled off seven-wicket win in what was a lopsided contest on a Trent Bridge pitch that is famous for its 600-plus scores.

After being put in to bat first, Pakistan batsmen struggled from the word go, with the many West Indies speedsters troubling them with ferocious bouncers every now and then. The result: all they could put up on board was 105.

Oshane Thomas, playing in his first World Cup, was the wrecker-in-chief, taking 4-27. Captain Jason Holder took 3-42, while Andre Russell (2-4) set the tone early on.

In reply, West Indies were as ruthless. Gayle smashed 50 off just 34 balls before Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 19-ball-34 ensured they chased it down in just 82 balls.

No wonder, Twitterati went crazy at Pakistan’s tame show.

“Just 212 balls in the game and it’s over. West Indies, showing what they are capable of ,and Pakistan too,” former India player Mohammad Kaif wrote.

“PCB protests for exclusion of Zimbabwe, Kenya from CWC19 #WIvPAK,” quipped another user.

“Ye jo 29 overs bach gaye hai wo hume kya next match me extra milenge?”

Pakistan will hope to pull one back when they next face hosts England on Monday.
