Who male tennis player would you take to an island? Rafael Nadal? Grigor Dimitrov? Novak Djokovic?

Well, Simona Halep was asked the same question in a recent interview, but she chose none of the above. Instead, she took the name of her good friend Roger Federer. Not really a surprise, is it?

“Federer, of course,” Halep, who is currently ranked No. 2 in the world, said of the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

The reason? “Because I like the way he plays and his personality,” she said. “It would be great to spend time with him and enjoy the experience, his thoughts. When you talk with the best, you can learn something.”

This is not the first time Federer and Halep have shown mutual respect for each other.

After the Romanian peaked to No. 1 in WTA rankings last year, Federer said: “Who is No. 1 deserves to be there. Not for a second should you ever take away anything from Halep who’s worked their life to achieve a life-goal dream.

“It’s not only about Grand Slams. She’s played a full season, she’s tough, fit, playing all the time, she practises hard, she’s committed and that also should be rewarded.”

“Especially if you’re consistently playing for titles and she did. She won some and lost some, fair enough.”

Halep responded, saying: “I felt really proud of myself that Roger Federer could talk about me like that, I thank him for the nice words.”
