Serena Williams has come under the scanner for reportedly asking French Open officials to have her press conference arranged immediately following her stunning third round loss to Sofia Kenin on Saturday.

Even as certain reports claimed the 23-time Grand Slam champion asked for a secondary press room as she didn’t want to wait after her 2-6 5-7 defeat, the tournament officials wanted her to be in the main room.

Consequently, Dominic Thiem, who was addressing media after advancing to the fourth round, was booted out midway to accommodate Williams. No wonder, the Austrian star was just not taking it.

“I don’t really get it, seriously. What the hell? It’s a joke. I have to leave the room because she’s coming. Well I’ll leave also then. I can also do whatever I want,” he fumed.

Twitterati was quick to show displeasure at the preferential treatment.

“Serena Williams needs to retire from the sport. She is a joke of a human who uses the little authority she has to bully others,” one person wrote.

“Nothing victorious about it. One L for Serena on the court. An even bigger L for her doing that to Thiem,” another one added.

Even former Australian tennis player Sam Groth didn’t shy away from taking a dig at the American star.

“Wait your turn for the press room like everyone else. Thiem, still in the draw having won, would have agreed to a press time and has a round of 16 match to prepare for, Serena just has her jet on the tarmac!” he tweeted.
