World Cup 2015: Sri Lanka, Afghanistan Record Contrasting Victories
Afghanistan beat Scotland
Team Afghanistan recorded its first ever win at the World Cup 2015 with a thrilling last-over conquest of Scotland at Dunedin first up on Thursday.
With the flip of the coin going their way, Afghanistan decided to bowl first, eventually doing a fine job by bundling out Scotland for 210 runs. Fast-bowler Shapoor Zadran was the wrecker-in-chief with a four-wicket haul, while Dawlat Zadran also had 3 scalps.
In response, a fine bowling performance from Scotland saw Afghanistan struggle at 97-7, before a belligerent knock from Samiullah Shenwari (96) helped them chase down the total with a solitary wicket to spare.
Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh
Riding on centuries from veteran batsmen Tillakaratne Dilshan (161*) and Kumar Sangakkara (105*), Sri Lanka amassed a mammoth 332-1 against Bangladesh at Melbourne.
In their quest to chase down the total, the Bangladesh batsmen looked in a jiffy to pile up runs, consequently getting all-out for 240 in 47 overs.
Lasith Malinga (3/35) was the pick of the bowlers, even as Suranga Lakmal (2/49) and Dilshan picked 2 wickets apiece.
