Last week they repeated the history, this week they changed it! After continuing their winning streak against Pakistan in a dominating fashion, India clinched their first ever conquest of South Africa at the World Cup, after producing a clinical all-round performance to thrash the Proteas by 130 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Earlier, Indian skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first, which eventually proved to be the right decision as they amassed 307-7 in 50 overs, thanks to a fluent century from Shikhar Dhawan (137), who was involved in crucial partnerships with Ajinkya Rahane (79) and Virat Kohli (46).

In their quest to chase down a healthy total, the South African batsmen struggled to get going against a lethal Indian bowling unit. They played some lose shots, looked nervous in encountering spin, and a couple of run-outs saw them get all-out for a paltry 177 in the 41st over itself.

Faf du Plessis (55) was the only batsman who played some fine shots. But lack of support from the other end meant that the Proteas reach nowhere around the 308-run target.

For India, off-spinner Ravichanndran Ashwin bagged 3 wickets, while fast-bowlers Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma had 2 scalps apiece.
