World Cup 2015: Sangakkara, Dilshan Steer SL to 148-Run Victory over Scotland
World Cup 2015 – Riding on dual tons from veteran batsmen Kumar Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan, Sri Lanka pulled off a massive 148-run victory over Scotland in Hobart on Wednesday.
Following an early dismissal of Lahiru Thirimanne (4), Dilshan (104) and Sangakkara (124) joined hands for a brutal 195-run partnership for the second wicket that not only ripped apart the Scottish bowling line up, but also saw them amass 363-9 in 50 overs. The contribution of skipper Angelo Mathews (51) cannot be negated, who smashed the second fastest half-century in 20 balls.
In response, Scotland found themselves in a precarious situation at 44-3 in the 12th over. However, a constructive 118-run partnership between Preston Mommsen (60) and Freddie Coleman (70) soon got the Scots on track. But, their rapture was short-lived, as a lethal Sri Lankan bowling unit bowled them out for 215 runs in the 44th over itself.
Sangakkara, who became the only batsman to score four consecutive centuries in a World Cup outing, was adjudged the Man of the Match for yet another gem of an innings.
