Ireland continued their purple patch at the World Cup 2015 following their thrilling 2-wicket win over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at Brisbane on Wednesday. This was Ireland’s second triumph in as many matches, having stunned West Indies in their opening encounter.

Earlier, UAE recovered from 131-6 in the 35th over to amass 278-9 in 50 overs, thanks to a fluent century from Shaiman Anwar (106), who sought imperative support from Amjad Javed (42). For Ireland, Paul Stirling, John Mooney, Alex Cusack, and Max Sorensen bagged 2 wickets each.

In their quest to chase down a healthy total, Ireland recovered from a sluggish start to chase down the target in the last over. Their innings was steered by Gary Wilson’s 69-ball 80 and a 25-ball from 50 from hard-hitting batsman Kevin O’Brien.

By the virtue of this win, Ireland move on to the 3rd position in the Pool ‘B’ standings.
