Chris Gayle has hit back at Ian Chappell after the former Australia captain called for a worldwide ban on the West Indian superstar over a controversial interview with female journalist in 2016.

While speaking to Mel McLaughlin during a Big Bash League game, Gayle embroiled himself in controversy by saying: “I wanted to come and have an interview with you as well. That’s the reason I’m here, just to see your eyes for the first time.

“Hopefully we can win this game and have a drink after. Don’t blush, baby.”

Gayle was subsequently fined $10,000 before he labelled his comment as joke. Chappell, though, was not happy with it.

“I wouldn’t have a problem if Cricket Australia said to the clubs, ‘he’s never to be contracted again in this country,’” Chappell had said

“And I also wouldn’t have a problem if Cricket Australia said to the ICC, ‘what we’re doing should be worldwide.’”

However, when Mumbai Mirror asked Gayle what he makes of Chappell’s comments, he simply snubbed to recognize him: “Who’s Ian Chappell?”

Gayle is currently in India, where he represented the Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League. His exploits with the bat couldn’t help his team get through to the play-offs though.
