Umar Akmal is in the news again, and for the wrong reasons as well.

The Pakistan batsman has been fined 20 per cent of his match fees after he went out for a late night-out – reportedly sans permission – ahead of the fifth ODI against Australia.

Akmal attended Akon’s concert, where he recorded a velfie of himself lip-syncing the rapper’s songs.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday imposed a fine on Akmal, who reportedly accepted the charge.

“I am glad that Akmal has realised his mistake, and has accepted and apologised for his actions, which were clearly unprofessional and in no way can be ignored or overlooked,” PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“The PCB expects a high level of professionalism and commitment from its players, and this action is a reiteration and timely reminder that any indiscipline shall not be tolerated or accepted.”

Notably, this was Akmal’s first series for Pakistan in two years after his international career appeared to be in jeopardy following a spat with coach Mickey Arthur.

His return didn’t inspire Pakistan though as they were whitewashed in the five-match ODI series.
