It turned out to be a horrific day out for New Zealand cricketer Mitchell McClenaghan, who sustained a facial fracture after taking a blow on his eye off a bouncer during his side’s first ODI match against Pakistan in Wellington on Monday.

It happened so in the penultimate ball of the first innings, when McClenaghan missed a bouncer from Anwar Ali, which went on to penetrate through the helmet space to strike him just over the eye. The physio was, subsequently, rushed on to the field.

The 29-year-old McClenaghan, later, took it to Twitter to share his picture from the hospital. “Thanks for all the concerns. Everything is as good as it can be just a few broken bones. Great win for the boys!” he wrote a caption along.

Meanwhile, New Zealand managed to pull off a comfortable 70-run win in the end. The hosts bundled out Pakistan for 210 in the 46th over, before amassing 280-8 in the first innings to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series here.
