WATCH: MS Dhoni drops major retirement hint after India’s series defeat to England

MS Dhoni is set to announce his retirement from One-Day Internationals (ODIs), if his gesture following India’s defeat to England is to be considered a hint of that.

In a video that went viral online (see below), the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman can be seen collecting the match ball from the umpires after India were beaten by England in the third and final ODI in Leeds on Wednesday. The hosts clinched the series 2-1.

Dhoni’s gesture could well mean that it was his outing in 50-over cricket, given the fact that he had collected a stump in his last Test match before announcing a shock retirement following the away Test match against Australia back in December 2014.

Twitter users had mixed reactions to it. “Plzz Don’t do this again @msdhoni,” one fan wrote. “Isn’t that white beard on Dhoni’s face screaming retirement?” another person wrote.

It was, however, a ‘masterstroke’ by the World Cup-winning captain. “Dhoni did this only to shift focus of journos. Ab kiski ko nahi padi ki series haar gaye….Sab lage pade ki Dhoni ne kyu ball li….Masterstroke!!!”

If the rumours turn out to be real, the question remains if he will continue to play the T20s. The decision would be controversial, one may say, as it would come just 10 months before the ODI World Cup.

Time shall answer all the questions.
