Shahid Afridi was dismissed in a bizarre fashion during his team Comilla Victorians’ match against Chittagong Vikings in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Sunday.

Playing just his fourth ball since arriving at the crease, Afridi was welcomed with a vicious bouncer from fast bowler Khalel Ahmed.

In an attempt to go deep inside the crease to hit a hook shot, Afridi shoes touched the stumps. The bails were dislodged, to nobody’s notice for a while.

While the batsman signaled he was okay to continue, the bowler was on his way back to run-up. It was only after a few seconds that wicket-keeper Mohammad Shahzad saw the stumps as he went up to the umpire.

Replays confirmed Afridi was out hit-wicket – a rare way of being dismissed in cricket.

His wicket, however, proved to be a blessing in disguise for Comilla as their next batsman, Thisara Perera, came in all guns blazing as he smashed eight sixes on his way to 26-ball 74 that propelled his side to 184-5 in 20 overs.

Chittagong, in reply, rode on captain Mushfiqur Rahim’s 41-ball 75 to chase down the target in the last (with two balls to spare, to be precise).
