It may have been a while since Ravichandran Ashwin last played for India, but the veteran off-spinner didn’t seem to be rusty one bit in his latest appearance.

Playing for Nottinghamshire against Surrey in County Championship Division One, Ashwin took 12 wickets (6/69 & 6/75) besides remaining unbeaten on 66 in the second innings.

However, Ashwin, who is only favoured in Test matches now, ended up on the losing side after Nottinghamshire went on to lose the contest by 167 runs.

After Surrey scored 240 in the first innings, Nottinghamshire could only manage 116 in response, thanks to an eight-fer from offie Amar Virdi.

Surrey scored 224-9 in the second innings, setting Nottinghamshire a target of 348 runs.

Despite Ashwin’s resistance with the bat, Surrey rode on Virdi’s six-wicket haul to bundle their opponents out for 181.
