The captain is always right.

Well, Pakistan batsman Asif Ali learnt that the hard way during his team’s second Twenty20 International against Australia in Canberra earlier this week.

During the 12th over of Pakistan’s batting, Asif denied skipper Babar Azam’s call for a second run. The very next ball he faced, he was caught by Pat Cummins off left-arm spinner Ashton Agar.

No wonder, Azam was furious at Asif throwing his wicket away, which wouldn’t have been the case had the latter obliged the call for a second run.

Azam went on to score his half-century, getting run out while attempting to steal an extra run in the 16th over. Besides, Iftikhar Ahmed exhibited power-hitting on his way to 34-ball 62 to help Pakistan reach 150-6 in 20 overs.

It, however, turned out to be all too easy for Australia as the hosts rode on Steve Smith’s 51-ball 80 not out to chase down the target with seven wickets in hand and nine balls to spare.

The two teams are scheduled to next meet in Perth on Friday in what will be a dead rubber.
