Mitchell Santner put on a dream all-round show – in every sense of the word – as New Zealand rolled over England in the first of the two-match Test series that concluded at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, on Monday.

First, he smashed his maiden Test century as he was involved in a marathon 261-run stand with BJ Watling (205) as the hosts amassed 615-9. Then, he finished with impressive figures of 40-19-53-3 as England folded out for 197 to lose by an innings and 65 runs.

That was not it. England batsman Ollie Pope poked at a widish full toss off Neil Wagner. And what happened next, stunned one and all.

Santner, fielding at short over, plucked the catch out of thin air, stretching completely to his right… all while being in the air.

No wonder, fans couldn’t stop praising the left-hander for his stunning effort.

“Man of the Match- BJ Watling. Focus of the Match- Mitchell Santner,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“This catch should get catch of the year,” another one claimed.

Meanwhile, the two teams are next scheduled to lock horns in the second Test that is scheduled to get under way at Seddon Park, Hamilton, on Friday.
