Australian batsmen Marcus Stoinis and Steve Smith were involved in a horrible mix-up during their World Cup fixture against England at the Lord’s on Tuesday.

The incident happened during the 42nd over of the first innings after Smith drove an Adil Rashid delivery past the extra cover fielder.

The duo ran the first run hard, but Smith backed away from taking a second even as Stoinis made it to the danger end well before the throw came in from the long off fielder.

Rashid, after collecting the ball, had all the time in the world to throw it to wicket-keeper Jos Buttler who effected the run while Stoinis stood parallelly to Smith.

No wonder, he wore a wry smile on his face while on his way back.

Australia went on to amass 285-7 in 50 overs, with captain Aaron Finch leading the way again with a hundred while his opening partner David Warner chipped in with a 53.

At the time of publishing, England were struggling at 65-4 in 16 overs, thanks to pacers Jason Behrendorff and Mitchell Starc who struck twice each.
