In what was turning out to be a mind-numbing match for the crowd between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday, Praveen Kumar splurged a wave of energy into the crowd with some awkward batting exhibition.

Nothing was going SRH’s way as the hosts were careworn to find their feet at 86-6 in the 17th over of the innings, when Praveen – not known much for his batting – stepped on to the field in his quest to boost his team to a respectable total.

He seemed well-versed with the perilous yorkers that MI bowling spearhead Lasith Malinga could deliver. Hence, when the duo encountered head-to-head, Praveen precisely anticipated every ball to be pitched into the block hole.

However, the way he played out those toe-crushers left everybody in amusement. Making no movement whatsoever with the feet, he clung on to his stance without lifting his willow up, and just followed the direction of the ball to safely dig it out. Strange retort, isn’t it?

SRH, eventually, went on to amass a paltry 113-run total batting first in the do-or-die clash.
