Sydney Sixers beat Sydney Thunders in opening match of BBL 2016/17

Sixth season of Big Bash League or BBL 2016/17 has already kick off in last 20th December, 2016. This season will end up in next 28th January, 2017. Total eight teams are participating in the most exciting short form cricket competition which is regarded as the second largest T20 league cricket in the world after Indian Premier League.

In the first match of BBL 2016/17 which is the top professional Twenty 20 cricket competition in Australia, Sydney Thunders was defeated by Sydney Sixers by nine wickets so far. Sydney Thunders started the season of BBL as the defending champion but they stumbled at their very first match.

The match was hosted at Spotless Stadium where Sixers won the toss and elected to field first in their inaugural competition. Came to bat first, Thunders lost their first wicket Patterson so early when the team run was just 16. But from then, Gibson and Morgan started to dominate the Sixers bowlers and made almost a fifty runs partnership. Morgan scored 26 runs by playing 19 balls and Gibson  scored 53 runs by 43 balls.

Morgan was out when team score was 71. After that within next twelve runs, Thunders lost their next four wickets so soon. Then, Cummins made a partnership with opener Gibson. However, at the end of the twenty overs, Sydney Thunders scored 159 runs. Dwarshuis, Mennie and Bollinger took two wickets each for Sixers.

So, Sixers had to score 160 runs to win and first time, it seemed not possible for the Sixers to chase that score. They lost their first wicket when run was 45 but later they did not have to look back. They reached to the target so easily and by losing no more wickets. Hughes scored 54 runs and Henriques scored 76 runs. Russell got just the only wicket for Thunders.

Through the winning of the inaugural match, Sixers has moved to the one step closer to the BBL 2016/17 title. Now, Sydney Thunder will play their next match against Melbourne Renegades in next 22nd December, 2016 at Etihad Stadium and ydney Sixers will play their next match against Hobart Hurricanes in 23rd December, 2016 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
