Sussex County Cricket Club is a first class county cricket team which is also known as Sussex Sharks. The limited over team is known by the name. Sussex Sharks can be called as one of the most successful team in Royal London One Day Cup tournament. Since the beginning of the tournament, they used to take part in the county cricket competition as one of the eighteen teams. They have won several titles of the tournament earlier though after 2014 they yet to touch it. But in the ongoing season of the tournament Royal London One Day Cup, they have participated from the South Group. With the inaugural match in the South group, they have started their journey this time. In their first match, Sussex Sharks won by 7 wickets against Kent Spitfires.

Kent Spitfires is also a franchise team in the tournament which tested the title of Royal London One Day Cup earlier when it was known by another name. But since few seasons they could not make any significant move. Their starting in the season seems so poor. The match against Sussex Sharks was so important for them. They had to make a good start in the season but failed.

The match between Kent and Sussex took place in 17th May, 2018 at County Ground, Hove. In the match, Kent won the toss and decided to bat first. They thought to present a handsome total in front of Sussex but they fallen into batting disaster.

Openers Drummond and Joe Denly did not make a handsome start. In 2 runs captain Denly was gone. Top three wickets of the team Kent did not make two figure runs. Zak scored 5 runs and Heino scored 6 runs respectively. Later, opener Drummond and Alex made a partnership that added almost 80 runs. Drummond scored 90 runs highest where Alex scored 29 runs so far. Just this two players made their score to two figure. In 43.3 overs team Kent lost all wickets and scored 188 runs so far. Robinson and Danny took three wickets each for the team Sussex.

Came to chase, Sussex also failed to make a good start. In 8 runs opening partnership was broken. In 19 runs 2nd wicket was gone as well. Later, in 3rd wicket partnership between Luke Wells and Ben Brown, they added more than 100 runs. Luke Well scored 62 runs and captain Ben scored 73 runs and remained not out. He with Laurie Evans left the ground with victory. They had to play 39.5 overs to take the victory.
