It turned out to be a great Day 2 for India in the ongoing first of the four-match Test series in Mohali against South Africa, as the hosts shrugged off an opening day disappointment to pile on misery for their opponents.

Among a few remarkable performances, R Ashwin – India’s premier in the bowling department – had a marvelous day in the office. His five-for not only helped India skittle out South Africa for a paltry 184-run total in the first innings, but also reached a personal milestone, becoming the fastest Indian to 100 Test wickets.

His feat, in only 29 matches, makes him the 9th fastest bowler in the history of the sport to do so, joining the likes of Waqar Younis (27), and Ian Botham and Dale Steyn, both of whom also took 29 matches, but are placed above in the list owing to a superior average.

The list is headed by former England fast-bowler Sydney Barnes, who just took 24 matches to enter the triple figures back in 1913.
