Sri Lanka won by 3 runs at Kandy

Finally team Sri Lanka returned to the ODI series with victory. In the 4th ODI against South Africa, team Sri Lanka won by 3 runs at Kandy. Though the match was not finished at the regular way but due to rain, it was reduced and finally D/L method was applied. So, the local team Sri Lanka won the match by only 3 runs. However, they have missed the series already but the reality is they have just avoided a whitewash in the ODI series against Proteas.

In recent time, team South Africa is visiting Sri Lanka and they are to play a full tournament that consists of Test, ODI and T20I series. They started the competition with Test series where the local team Sri Lanka won the series. But now, they are in the ODI schedule and team Sri Lanka has already missed the chance of winning the ODI series. They faced three consecutive defeats against Proteas in the first three matches and as a result they missed the series also.

The 4th ODI between Sri Lanka and South Africa took place in 8th August, 2018 at the same venue of 3rd match named Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy. For Proteas, Junior Dala made his ODI debut through the match. Quinton de Kock played role as the captain of South Africa for the first time in the match.

Earlier the guest team South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first. So, the Lions came to bat. The Lions started their innings with Dickwella and Tharanga. Jointly they added 61 runs where Dickwella was gone with 34 runs. Tharanga scored 36 runs in the match. Later, Mendis came but scored only 14 runs so far. Perera and Thisara Perera played well and they scored 51 runs each respectively. Besides, Shanaka scored 65 runs for the team as well. They played 39 overs and scored 306 runs totally by losing seven wickets. In the meantime, the match was stopped by the rain. Ngidi and Duminy took two wickets each for Proteas.

Due to the rain, Proteas was presented a revised target of 191 runs. They played 21 overs to chase it. De Kock and Amla started to chase where captain De Kock scored 23 runs and Amla scored 40 runs so far. Duminy played well but got run out. He scored 38 runs. They played 21 overs but scored 187 runs. They went too close but could not chase the score finally. They lost nine wickets while chasing the runs. Lakmal took three wickets and Perera took two wickets for the Lions.
