Sri Lanka won 1st Test at Galle

Sri Lanka cricket board has organized a home tournament where they invited South Africa to visit them. So, Proteas is traveling Sri Lanka right now. They started the tournament with a tour match against Sri Lanka Board XI as the preparation for the first Test. The Test series consists of two matches though it was about to three matches Test series. But, they reduced one Test and replaced it by the ODI and T20I schedule. In 12th July, 2018 the first Test between Sri Lanka and South Africa took place. Sri Lanka won 1st Test at Galle against the guest team South Africa.

Sri Lanka won 1st Test at Galle

The match started in 12th July, 2018 at Galle International Stadium, Galle and in the match Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first.

Gunathilaka and Karunaratne started to bat for the Lions. Openers added 44 runs only. Gunathilaka scored 26 runs and returned to the dressing room. Karunaratne stood strong. He played alone at the side where at the end of the crease, the players used to change within a regular gap. De Silva scored 11 runs, Mendis scored 24 runs and Sandakan scored 26=5 runs so far. The Lions could not play the first day but in 78.4 overs they lost all wickets and scored 287 runs so far. Karunaratne remained not out with 158 runs so far. Rabada took four wickets highest where Shamsi took three wickets for the team Proteas.

Later, team Proteas came to bat for the first innings. Top three players failed to touch two figure runs where no one could score a fifty there. Captain Du Plessis scored 49 runs highest where Philander scored 18 runs so far. In 54.3 overs team South Africa lost all wickets and scored 126 runs totally. Perera took four wickets where Lakmal took three wickets and Herath took two wickets for the Lions in the 1st innings.

Later, the Lions came to bat for the 2nd innings. This time the local team faced batting collapsed and scored total 190 runs so far. Openers Gunathilaka scored 17 runs and Karunaratne scored highest 60 runs so far. Besides, Mathews scored 35 runs and Lakmal scored 33 runs. Maharaj took four wickets and Rabada took three wickets for the team South Africa. Proteas also failed to chase the score. In 73 runs team Proteas lost all wickets. They just played 28.5 overs in the 2nd innings. Markram scored 19 runs and Philander scored 22 runs so far. Perera took six wickets and Herath took three wickets for the Lions.
