Sri Lanka Cricketer Nuwan Kulasekara Arrested Over Fatal Road Mishap

Sri Lanka cricketer Nuwan Kulasekara has been reportedly arrested after he was involved in a road mishap that killed a motorcyclist. He was, however, released within hours.

According to reports, Kulasekara was travelling from Kandy to Colombo in his car when a motorcyclist, riding in the wrong way, lost his control and went head on with the 34-year-old’s four-wheeler. The motorcyclist was 28-years-old and his body has been send for autopsy.

The Sri Lanka Cricket board, later, released a statement, reading: “Sri Lanka Cricket expresses its sincere condolences on the tragic demise of a 28 year old Youth in an accident involving Sri Lanka Cricketer Nuwan Kulasekara earlier today (Monday). Preliminary inquiries have revealed that Mr. Kulasekara was returning to Colombo from Kandy, when the unfortunate Motor-cycle rider who was travelling in the opposite direction had lost control of his bike whilst tying to overtake a bus and got flung into Mr. Kulasekara’s path. Mr. Kulasekara is currently enlarged on bail by the Kadawatha Chief Magistrate pending completion of the investigation.”

Kulasekara, a specialist medium-pacer, had had called a time on his Test career earlier this year. He, however, continues to be available for the shorter formats.
