Twin tons from veterans Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal helped Bangladesh take the driver’s seat on the Day 2 of the second Test match in Khulna, as the hosts piled up 433 runs in the first innings.

Resuming from his overnight fifty, Tamim looked in good touch throughout and completed his century, before falling prey to medium-pacer Hamilton Masakadza for 109.

Subsequently, the visitors’ wretchedness escalated after Shakib also completed his ton with relative ease, who was eventually trapped for 137 runs by offie Malcolm Waller.

Zimbabwe, thereafter, produced some high-quality bowling performance to see off Shuvagata Hom (15), Taijul Islam (32), Shahadat Hossain (18), and Jubair Hossain (1). Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim (11) was unlucky to get run-out after he tried to earn a quick single in the middle.

In response, Zimbabwe suffered an early setback, losing Sikandar Raza (11) through Bangladesh’s new sensation, Taijul Islam. However, Brian Chari (21*) and Hamilton Masakadza (15*) ensured that the tourists do not lose any wickets further.

At stumps, Zimbabwe trailed Bangladesh by 380 runs.
