Legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting named his greatest playing eleven of all time. The list comprises of players he has played with or against during his career.

Ponting named five of his compatriots – Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer, Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, and Glenn McGrath – in the list, which also encompasses of two West Indians (Brian Lara and Courtney Walsh).

Besides, he named one player each from South Africa (Jacques Kallis), Sri Lanka (Kumar Sangakkar), and Pakistan (Wasim Akram).

Surprisingly, however, there’s just one Indian in Sachin Tendulkar, ignoring the likes of Rahul Dravid, Saurav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag.

Also surprising is the exclusion of Sri Lankan spin great Muttiah Muralitharan, the only bowler in the history of sport to have taken 800 Test wickets.

Here’s Ponting’s all-time XI:

  1. Matthew Hayden (AUS)
  2. Justin Langer (AUS)
  3. Jacques Kallis (RSA)
  4. Sachin Tendulkar (IND)
  5. Brian Lara (WI)
  6. Kumar Sangakkara (SL)
  7. Adam Gilchrist (AUS)
  8. Shane Warne (AUS)
  9. Wasim Akram (PAK)
  10. Curtly Ambrose (WI)
  11. Glenn McGrath (AUS)
