At the first teat of the season among South Africa and England at Durban, Joe Rote scored 73 runs innings on the way to England’s victory. That was his 13th 50 or 50+ scored of the year.

By this innings he named himself besides Indian opener Virender Shewag’s 13 fifty+ innings in a calendar year.  At 2010 Shewag scored 13 fifties of more than 50 plus innings and that was only for him since 29th December 2015. But now it is for Joe Root and Virender Shewag’s record. Both had been played 14 test each but Shewag played 25 innings and Root played 26 innings.

Out of Shewag’s 13 innings 8 was fifty and 5 was hundred. And Root have 3 hundred besides 10 fifty. So of the year Root have no test left, and he have no chance to beyond Shewag.

In one calendar year there have 8 player who scored 12 fifty+ score. All the legend on that list. 12 times at 1976 by Sir Vivian Richards, 1979 by Sunil Gavaskar, 2004’s by Jacques Kallis, 2005’s by Rickey Ponting, 2006’s by Mohammad Yousuf, 2008’s by Gream Smith, 2010 by Schain Tendulcar, 2014 by Kumar Sangakara.

But this year Root can’t beyond Steven Smith in run scoring so far. Last innings he got out on 73 runs and in 26 innings he scored 1385 in whole year. In 24 innings and with 1474 runs Steven Smith is in the top of that list.
