Proteas whitewashed Sri Lanka in ODI series

At last the Lions are being whitewashed by South Africa in ODI series where the ODI series consisted of five matches and the Lions did not able to make any single victory there. After losing the four ODIs consecutively, the Lions were desperate to win the rest match to avoid whitewash. They played their last match against Proteas yesterday at Centurion. But, finally they left the ground with a terrible lose. They could not manage the victory in the last ODI too but faced a great defeat by 88 runs. Came to bat, Proteas scored a ton of runs in fifty overs where the score was 384 which was nearly impossible for the Lions to chase. But, they determined to do that. Finally, finished their innings in 296 runs by losing eight wickets. As a result, Proteas completely whitewashed them by 5 – 0.

Sri Lanka has finished their South Africa tour with the fifth ODI match but before the ODI series, they also played a Test and T20I series as well. They lost the Test series but their only achievement in T20I series. They won the T20I series by 2 – 1.

Earlier in 10th February, 2017, Sri Lanka won the toss and selected to field first at the 5th ODI of the series. They wanted to make a good start with their strong bowling side but could not break the opening partnership of the Proteas so early. Both openers de Kock and Amla scored century each where Amla scored highest 154 runs and de Kock got out with his 109 runs. De Kock was out when team score was 187. Later, du Plessis came to join Amla and they made another 63 runs partnership. After du Plessis’s departure, de Villiers and Duminy could not make their innings longer. Later, Behardien came up and joined with Amal where Amla left the crease with his 154 runs but by then they made 309 runs. Later, Morris and Parnell finished their 50 overs innings with 384 team runs. They lost total six wickets where Lakmal took 3 and Madushanka took 2 wickets for the Lions.

Sri Lanka failed to make a good start in batting and in their first five wickets, Dickwella scored highest 39 runs. Though, later Gunaratne made an unbeaten century of 114 runs and Pathirana scored 56 runs but they could not save their whitewash. They finished their innings by making 296 runs.
