Proteas getting closer to ODI series by winning 2nd match at Durban

David Miller and du Plessis scored century each in the second ODI at Durban against Sri Lanka and through their centuries, Proteas passed 300 runs successfully. Scoring such big runs, they took an easy victory over the Lions. They beat the Lions by 121 runs and has gone too close to the series. Now, the series statistics is 2 – 0. The ODI series consists of five matches and to confirm it, one of them must win three matches. So, there are still three matches left and Proteas needs to win just another match to win the series.

Proteas getting closer to ODI series by winning 2nd match at Durban

At Durban in yesterday, they came to bat by losing the toss and scored 307 runs by losing six wickets so far. In return, the Lions got packet by playing just 37.5 overs and scored 186 runs. Basically, to chase such big runs, they could not start their innings so good. Besides, middle order batsmen also failed to justify their name. So, they lost wickets regularly and ruled out from the match.

Among first nine players of the Lions, eight of them reached two figure runs but no one could able to make a longer innings. Their opening partnership was broken in 45 runs and in following next 7 runs, lost their second wickets. They scored 25 and 26 runs respectively. Mendis and Chandimal tried to do some better but they could not stop to prevent wickets from falling. Chandimal scored highest 36 runs who gave catch to Proteas wicketkeeper. Since the beginning to the last, the Lions could not make any good partnership and so, faced a certain lose. But, South Africa bowled very well where Tahir, Parnell and Duminy took two wickets each.

However, Proteas also failed to make a good start in their innings where lost their first wickets in 19 runs. The first breakthrough came up by Lakmal. Their openers also could not make huges runs but finished with 15 and 17 runs so far. After four wickets, Plessis and Miller took the lead and both score hundred runs each where Miller remained not out with his 117 runs by playing 98 balls. He colored his innings with three 4’s and six 6’s. Due to his brilliant century, Plessis was announced as the player of the match. The upcoming 3rd ODI will be staged in 4th February, 2017 at Johannesburg.
