Proteas beat the Lions by 8 wickets in first ODI at Port Elizabeth

Yesterday, Sri Lanka played their first ODI against Proteas and faced a shameful defeat. They lost in huge difference against the Proteas after passing an amazing T20 series with them. However, the Lions are now staying South Africa due to play a tournament with them where they already finished Test and T20 series. In test series, the Lions has been whitewashed and in T20, they claimed the series by 2 – 1. The current team structure of the Lions are not so powerful and they have assigned a number of new faces in their current squad. So, their are in lack of experience. In this circumstances, they are visiting South Africa and faced expected defeat.

After completing Test and T20 series, Sri Lanka has started their ODI series against South Africa which consists of five matches. In their first match which was staged yesterday at Port Elizabeth, South Africa beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets with 94 balls remaining.

However, yesterday, the Lions started to bat by losing the toss but all of a sudden, they fallen into batting disaster and lost their two openers within 14 runs. In their 3rd wicket partnership gave them 70 runs. Since, 86 runs, they again started to lose wickets. no players made a longer innings but only Mendis. He scored highest 62 runs by playing 94 balls so far. Besides, they could not play the whole 50 overs but got all out in 48.3 overs and scored 181 runs. Imran Tahir and Parnell played the main role to destroy the Lankan lineup and both took three wickets each for Proteas.

182 runs was so little for South Africa to chase at Port Elizabeth where the ground was so familiar to them. They lost their first wickets in 71 runs and next one in 131 runs. They lost none more but only two wickets. du Plessis and de Villiers made an easy victory over Sri Lanka. To do this, Proteas had to play 34.2 overs only. So, through this victory, South Africa moved to the one step closer to the ODI title. And to ensure the series, they need to win two more match where they have still four matches to go. The upcoming match of the tournament will be staged in 1st February, 2017.
