While the infamous tragedy of Australian batsman Phil Hughes is yet to get out of our minds, the cricket fraternity witnessed one similar incident on the field.

Well-known Australian umpire John Ward got seriously injured while standing for the Rajni Trophy match between Tamil Nadu and Punjab in Palani. It happened so when a ball came off the willow of Punjab’s Brainder Sran to strike Ward’s head.

The blow is said to be so powerful that the 53-year-old fell on to the ground before the officials rushed him to the hospital, where his condition is said to be stable now. The official statement coming from Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has confirmed the same.

Although Ward is out of danger now, it has given enough reasons to ascertain how dangerous an umpire’s job is. Here’s wishing John Ward a speedy recovery.
