Pakistan vs New Zealand: New Zealand have let off the hook after dominating first half of the match, as a spectacular bowling performance from spinners Yasir Shah and Zulfiqar Babar helped them reduce the touring team to 167-6 in the second innings on Thursday.

Earlier, Pakistan managed to close in on New Zealand’s first innings score of 403. Riding on a fluent century from Sarfraz Ahmed (112), the hosts posted 393 runs on the board, trailing the tourists by just 10 runs.

In the second essay, nothing went on track for New Zealand. Yasir Shah got the better of opener Tom Latham (9), before Zulfiqar Babar trapped Kane Williamson (11) cheaply.

The visitors’ misery escalated after losing well-set batsman and skipper Brendon McCullum (45) off Babar.

Whilst Ross Taylor showed persistence at the one end, the other New Zealand batsmen kept gifting away wickets from the other end. Corey Anderson departed without getting off the mark and James Neesham (11) and BJ Watling (11) also could not throw in much.

At stumps, New Zealand were 167-6, with Ross Taylor (77*) and Mark Craig (0*) unbeaten at the crease.

For Pakistan, Babar and Shah grabbed 3 wickets apiece.
