New Zealand equalized the series by winning 2nd ODI

After facing two heartbroken defeat against South Africa in T20I and first ODI matches, team New Zealand has finally turned their back and defeated Proteas in the 2nd match of the ongoing ODI series which was staged at Hagley Oval, Christchurch in 22nd February, 2017. Basically, Black Caps batsman Ross Taylor played the most important role where he scored undefeated 102 runs and through this Black Caps scored a challenging figure against Proteas. New Zealand scored 289 runs in selected fifty overs but Proteas could not able to chase the score by batting complete overs and finished their innings in 283 runs. So, South Africa faced their first defeat in this tour and New Zealand reach an equal position in this ODI series by 1 – 1. Now, they have left three matches in hand and one of them needs to win two matches to ensure the series as well.

Earlier of the 22nd February, Proteas won the toss and chose to bowl. New Zealand lost their key opener Latham at the beginning of the match but later Williamson and Brownlie took the lead but not for so long. Their partnership was broken by Pretorius when the team score was 53. But after that, Williamson and Taylor made a hundred runs partnership where Williamson finished his innings with 69 runs by Tahir. But Taylor stood till the last remained unbeaten. Later, Neesham was his companion who scored the second highest runs 71 for Black Caps. So, finally New Zealand team finished their journey by scoring 289 runs in 4 wickets only. Pretorius took two wickets where Parnell and Tahir took a wicket each for Proteas.

South Africa also lost their one opener Amla within 22 runs and they also made a partnership in the second wickets but their partnership could not last long enough. Most of the Proteas players made it to the double figure runs but excluding de Kock and Pretorius, no one able to score any fifty. De Kock scored 57 and Pretorius scored 50 runs for the team. But failing to make an ideal partnership, South Africa finished their innings in 283 runs and in the meantime, they lost total nine wickets. Boult took highest three wickets and Santner took two wickets so far for the Black Caps. Taylor was announced as the man of the match due to his amazing century.
