Netherlands and Ireland are currently taking part in the tri nation series where Netherlands is the host nation. The tournament has started their journey already in June, 2018 where Ireland, Netherlands and Scotland are taking part. The tournament consists of T20 format and their hope to make it an annual  tri nation series since this season. However, Ireland has a tough schedule ahead which will be against India and so, they are taking it as the preparation for upcoming competition. The inaugural match started between Ireland and host nation Netherlands. In the match, Netherlands won by 4 runs.

The captaincy of team Ireland has changed a bit where instead of William Porterfield, the new captain is Gary Wilson. And team Netherlands is led by Pieter Seelaar.

The tri nation series consists of six matches where each team will have to face the same opponent twice times. However, total three venues are selected for the whole tournament where each venue will host two matches. The inaugural match took place at Hazelaarweg Stadion, Rotterdam. In the match which kick off in 12th June and it was a day/ night competition, Netherlands lost the toss and came to bat first. There are number of players in Netherlands who made their T20I debut through the match against Ireland. Besides, as the capotain Pieter Seelaar played his first T20I.

Visee and O’Dowd started the innings for Dutch team. Openers added 27 runs in 2.3 overs when Visee was gone with 15 runs so far. He played 8 balls and made the score. O’Dowd scored 20 runs. Later, Cooper came but scored only 14 runs so far. Leede and captain Seelaar played well among the Dutch players and scored 33 and 36 runs respectively. Rest players did not touch two figure runs. In 19.5 overs team Netherlands lost all wickets and scored total 144 runs.

Irish captain used total seven bowlers to bring down Dutch innings and he was quite successful. McCarthy and Singh took highest three wickets each for Ireland where Dockrell and Thompson took one wicket each.

144 runs in T20I format was almost easy to chase. Ireland is good in T20I cricket but against the local team, they failed to find the suitable spot. Openers added 15 and 17 runs respectively. But top orders and middle orders did not play their job successfully. Just Simi Singh played very well and scored unbeaten 57 runs. They went too close to the victory. In 20 overs team Ireland lost eight wickets and scored 140 runs. so, they were defeated by 4 runs only.
