Australia kicked-off the 5-match one-day international series against South Africa with an impressive 32-run conquest at the Western Australian Cricket Association ground in Perth on Friday.

Earlier, the Australian batsmen did a fantastic job to post 300 runs in 50 overs’ quota. The hosts’ innings was primarily driver by George Bailey (70), with vital contributions from David Warner (46), Aaron Finch (35) and Matthew Wade (35).

For South Africa, Vernon Philander starred with the ball, bagging 4 wickets for 45 runs, while Dale Steyn (2/62), Morne Morkel and Imran Tahir chipped in with a wicket each.

In response, South Africa got off to a nervous start, losing both their openers with the first half of the mandatory powerplay.

The visitors did gain stability in the middle, thanks to skipper AB de Villiers (80) and David Miller (65). The duo looked firm in their quest to chase down the total.

However, a superior exhibition of bowling from Nathan Coulter-Nile (4/48), helped Australia bundle-out South Africa for 268 runs.

By the virtue of their victory, Australia have taken an early 1-0 lead in the series.
