After helping India draw the third Test match against Australia in Melbourne, Indian captain MS Dhoni has announced his retirement from Test cricket from immediate effect, which came as a bummer not only to his fans, but also to the whole cricketing world.

“M S Dhoni has chosen to retire from Test Cricket with immediate effect in order to concentrate on ODI and T20 formats,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement released, further citing “strain” of playing across the formats as the reason for retirement.

The 33-year-old Ranchi-resident, who made his Test debut in 2005 (against Sri Lanka), played 90 matches throughout his career, scoring as many as 4876 runs at a decent average of 38.09.

Consequently, Virat Kohli is set to accept captaincy reigns from Dhoni, and is slated to lead India in the fourth Test match against Australia in Sydney next week.
