The first One-Day International (ODI) match between Bangladesh and India at Mirpur was more than just a mere battle. The hosts pulling off a stunning victory was not the only highlight of the match, as the on-field altercations eclipsed the clash.

It all commenced during the early overs of the second half of the match, when Indian opener Rohit Sharma strove to steal a single by sprinting towards the non-strikers end. But, the bowler – debutant Mustafizur Rahman – apparently tried to block his way, much to the dismay of the batsman who made no hesitation in animating an immediate retort.

That was not the end of the hullabaloo. In the 25th over, Indian skipper MS Dhoni also ran hard to complete a quick single just when left-handed Rahman – bowling from over the wicket – followed in through the former’s way. Visibly disconcerted, Dhoni continued to run on his way even as Rahman kept on coming across until he stumbled after the duo’s collided.

Consequently, the 19-year-old rookie suffered a minor niggle, and left his over midway to go off the field for a treatment. Dhoni, on the other hand, went straight up to the umpire to complain about the episode.

Although the issue resolved soon after the match, the match officials were forlorn to witness such an incident. Hence, they called upon to withhold 75 percent of Dhoni’s match fees, while Rahman also had to bear 50 percent from his first match amount for the misconduct.
