Morne Morkel Helps South Africa Level Honours against Australia
A lethal bowling performance from fast-bowler Morne Morkel helped South Africa beat Australia by 3 wickets at the Western Australian Cricket Association ground (WACA) in Perth on Sunday, as the visitors leveled the 5-match one-day international series, 1-1.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision, eventually, proved to be the wrong one, with the hosts being bundled out for a paltry 154-run total.
For South Africa, the pace duo of Morne Morkel (5/21) and Dale Steyn (3/35) shone with the ball to confine their oppositions in the 42nd over itself.
In response, the visitors overcame stern resistance from Josh Hazlewood, who despite bagging a five-wicket haul, failed to guide his team towards victory, as South Africa chased down the target in the 28th over itself.
“Felt a little bit rusty on Friday, but today I got the rhythm that I wanted. I always love bowling at the WACA, there is always some extra bounce for me,” an ecstatic Morkel was quoted as saying by CricBuzz.
“It feels nice to get a 5-fer against such a good team. We had the game in control, but I was padded up just in case.”
