Australia have suffered an early blow ahead of the fourth and final Test match against India as their star bowler, Mitchell Johnson, has been ruled out of the ultimate encounter due to a hamstring injury.

According to Cricket Australia’s (CA) official site, Johnson missed the training session on Saturday, before the team management confirmed the pace spearhead’s withdrawal.

Australia coach, Darren Lehmann, said that the hosts won’t be risking by playing Johnson in the fourth Test, so as to keep him in the right shape ahead of the triangular series involving India and England.

“Mitchell is an important part of our plans for the remainder of our summer and we want him 100 per cent right so won’t be taking any risks with him,” he said.

“We believe it is best for Mitchell to take this opportunity to freshen up and get his body fully fit ahead of the tri-series.”

Australia will look to extend their 2-0 lead in the series, when the two teams lock horns from January 6 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
