Melbourne Stars is one of the two most favourite team in ongoing episode of Big Bash League competition and currently standing in top position according to BBL 2016/17 point table. They have already played six match and got victory in four of them. Excluding Stars, Brisbane Heat also won the four matches out of six but placed in second position according to run rate calculation. As a result, Melbourne Stars has almost qualified for next stage of the competition named semi final as one of the four contenders. They did not have to struggle hard to pass the stage but played according to their own style. They reached final in last season of BBL where they faced defeat against Sydney Thunder but this time, Thunder may not be able to qualify for semi final.

However, Melbourne Stars has still two matches in their hand and today, they will play against their most top opponent Brisbane Heat. Besides, if they will lose their next two matches, they might get into trouble and perhaps, they could leave their first place as well. Stars played their last match against Perth Scorchers where they beat them easily. Though, they could not stage their best eleven in field because, couple of their players have received call from Australia national team like Maxwell and Faulkner. So, they would not use them in their next match also. Due to the reason, their batting line up would suffer but they have still possessed some tremendous batting genius like Pietersen, Wright etc.

In their last match in BBL against Perth Scorchers, Perth scored only 134 runs due to their batting failure where their top five batsmen could not reach two figure runs. Their score was so mere in front of Melbourne Stars batting. Stars also lost their first wickets Wright in 31 team runs but later, Pietersen stood strong and remained not out. He made a winning partnership with Stoinis. They reached the destination by losing only three wickets. However, in their upcoming match against Heat would not be easy to win but hopefully the match will be high voltage.

Without, Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat, the possible semi finalists are Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers where they both played seven matches and won four times.
