Riding on a record-breaking 267-run partnership between Luke Ronchi and Grant Elliott, New Zealand thrashed Sri Lanka by 108 runs in the 5th One-Day International (ODI) match at Dunedin on Friday.

Earlier, the kiwis were reduced to 93-5 in 20 overs, before Ronchi (170*) and Elliott (104*) helped the hosts amass 360-5 in the allotted 50 overs quota. For Sri Lanka, Nuwan Kulasekara and Lahiru Thirimanne took 2 wickets each, while Thisara Perera had one scalp.

In response, Sri Lanka – despite being guided by a fine century from opener Tillakaratne Dilshan (116) – got bundled out for 252 runs in the 44th over of the game itself.

Down 1-3 in the series now, the Sri Lankans need to pull off both the remaining encounter to save the series. Up next, the two teams are scheduled to cross the swords at the same venue on Sunday here.
