Leicestershire Foxes is a franchise team in Royal London One Day Cup tournament as one of the nine from north group. Royal London One Day Cup is a limited over competition based in England and Wales. ECB used to organise the tournament every year. It is a first class counties competition in England and Wales which was known by ECB 40 earlier in 2014. But in 2014, the named was changed to Royal London One Day Cup. Like every season of the tournament, total eighteen teams have taken part here which are divided into two groups where nine teams each. Leicestershire Foxes is placed in north group and in the inaugural match of the tournament, Leicestershire Foxes won by 72 runs against Northants Steelbacks.

This two franchise teams have a good history in the tournament but after changed the name in 2014, no one of them did able to take the title. So, they are desperate this time no doubt.

The tournament in the season started in 17th May, 2018 and the inaugural match of the tournament executed at County Ground in Northants Steelbacks. However, Northants Steelbacks is also known as Northamptonshire and it was the home venue where they faced Leicestershire in the opening match.

In the match, the local team Northamptonshire won the toss and decided to bowl first. So, guest team came to bat which was a day match. Captain Michael and Paul Horton started the innings for Leicestershire. Openers added 60 runs where captain Michael scored 25 runs so far. But another opener Paul Horton scored a century in the inaugural match. He scored 102 runs in 125 balls. They did play full 50 overs and in the meantime, they lost seven wickets totally. Rest players also played well overall. Colin scored 30 runs, Mark scored 27 runs, Ned scored 25 runs and Ben Raine scored 32 runs respectively for the team. So, at the end of 50 overs, the guest team presented 264 runs in front of the local team. For Northamptonshire, Luke Procter took three wickets and Rory took two wickets so far.

Later, Northamptonshire came to the chase. They started their innings with Joshua and Ben Duckett. Duckett scored 2 runs but Joshua played well. He scored 56 runs so far. Top orders and middle orders were failed but lower order tried a bit. Graeme scored 38 runs and Brett scored 34 runs for the team Northamptonshire. But they could not save the match. By losing all wickets Northamptonshire scored 193 runs totally.
