Indian Premier League well get underway on 16 April 2014 and the first phase of the event will be taking place in UAE. IPL Auction was a massive step for the teams to get their squads bolster with quality players and teams did just that. All the teams have couple of match winners both from domestic and international circuit and we are going to take a look at each and every teams chances of winning IPL’s 7th edition.
#1. MUMBAI INDIANS
Star Players: Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Corey Anderson, Lasith Malinga
Now this is one very balanced squad, some quality hard hitting batsman and probably the greatest IPL bowler Lasith Malinga teaming up with Zaheer Khan and Harbajhan singh. While fastest century scorer in 50 over cricket Corey Anderson will make his debut in Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians Squad
Verdict: on paper they look very strong and if half of their players are in good form they will make it to the playoffs easily and might go on to defend their title.
#2. SUNRISERS HYDRABAD
Star Players: Dale Steyn, Shikar Dhawan, David Warner, Ishant Sharma
A quick look at their squad suggest too many big hitters and match winning batsman plus they have the world’s number 1 fast bowler (Dale styne) in the rank. Very solid unit and they should get into the playoffs. Hydrabad Sunrisers Squad
Verdict: Potential finalists with Warner and Dhawan opening the batting Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma helping Styne in the bowling department should be exciting to watch.
#3. CHENNAI SUPER KINGS
Star Players: MS Dhoni, Brendon McCullum, Faf du Plessis
Solid unit and as always and Dhoni’s captaincy can get the best out of any crop of players. The managed to add Brendon McCullum and Du Plessis and overall have a solid batting lineup. Their bowling is bit on a weaker side but should do enough to get them in the playoffs. CSK Squad
Verdict: Alot depend on how Dhoni marshel his troops, McCullum is a match winner so is Dhoni and I can see them in the finals for the 5th time in 7 editions.
#4. ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE
Players to watch out: Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers
A quick look at the squad and you will be rubbing your eyes in disbelief while a 40-year old Murlitharan will share the bowling responsibilities with Starc and Morkel. They do have batsmen who can chase any total and put up great scores for their bowlers to defend. RCB IPL Squad
Verdict: Potential winners if Kohli keep his form and Gayle show up in big games, it will be hard to contain them though their bowling is somthing they might have to worry about.
#5. KINGS XI PUNJAB
Players to watch out for: Virender Sehwag, Mitchel Johnson, Glenn Maxwell
Looking at the Squad of KIXP its clear they dont have much of a depth in batting department. They have quality fast bowler in Mitchel Johson. Alot depend no Virender Sehwag form and how Bailey and Maxwell gel together with the domestic lot. .
Verdict: It will be hard for Punjab to get on grips with other big franchises who bought more star power in 2014 auction. But you can not bet again Sehwag, who I believe still has some good cricket left in him.
#6. KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS
Players to watch out for: Gautam Gambhir, Kallis, Sunil Narine, Yusuf Pathan
Again another team who struggled to spend wisely in auction, they have out of form Ghambir who will captain the side, Kallis who has past it while Yusuf Pathan is struggling for form big time. I can’t see them making any impact in the 7th edition. Kolkata Knight Riders Squad
Verdict: will have a few good games but on paper they look very thin in quality of squad.
#7. DELHI DAREDEVILS
Star Players: Kevin Pietersen, Ross Taylor, Mohammed Shami
Delhi lost out on retaining Virender Sehwag which might comeback to haunt them, while alot depend on new captain Kevin Pieterson who will lead them in 7th edition of indian premier league. Delhi Daredevils Team Squad
Verdict: Very light-weight team and will struggle to perform consistantly. I can’t see them putting up big totals and than being able to defend anything.
#8. RAJASTHAN ROYALS
Star Players: Shane Watson
Only one player who is renouned worldwide while couple of other players like Steven Smith, Tim Southee who you can class decen internationals. Looking at squad of Rajasthan Royals first thing comes to mind is quite a few of their players are not suited for T20. They will surely find it difficult to perform against the likes of Mumbai, Hydrabad and Chennai.
Verdict: cant see them making any impact at all, but this can be a good learning curve for a young side.
