Melbourne Cricket Ground was the host of the match which was the home arena of Melbourne Stars. However, Stars did not place their best eleven where their two top players like Maxwell and other were called by the national side and went there. SO, they placed their eleven without them and so, they became weaker than before. However, they possessed the most powerful batting line up in their team squad which consists of Pietersen, Wright and Quiney. And if Maxwell could participate, they could be unstoppable.

Sydney Sixers won the toss and came to field in that match. Though, Stars made their start well enough which added 59 runs in the scoreboard but later their run rate was reduced. They scored 130 runs by losing only two wickets in 15.3 overs but the following players failed to keep the run rate high. Basically, after their first three players gone, the next players did not make even two figure runs. So, they finished the innings by scoring 156 runs by losing 8 wickets.

156 runs was almost enough if they could bowl very well and could able to maintain the economy rate. But, the bowling side of Stars was consistently weaker than others. Though, Sixers lost their first wickers when their score was 28 only. And also lost their second wicket within next five runs. Since then, Sixers consecutively lost their wickets but kept their run rate high which gave them advantage. Finally, they took the victory where Hughes scored highest 34 runs. They lost seven wickets but did not have to play complete 20 overs to claim the victory.
