Legendary West Indies batsman, Brian Lara, opines that hosts India will be the top contenders at the forthcoming T20I World Cup scheduled to be held between March and April next year.

India are well-known for the fortress in their own backyard, the highlight of which includes the celebrated triumph at 2011 World Cup under the stewardship of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

This makes the 46-year-old Lara further convinced to stake the claim in his prediction.

“I think the Indian team playing at home is very dangerous team. And they proved that during the World Cup in 2011 in India under Dhoni,” Lara was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express.

“They have got very exciting players and versatile,” he added. “I expect them to be favourites in the tournament. I know home pressure is always there. I think the guys have grown a lot and I believe they have got a very good chance in the World Cup.”

Team India will be looking to pull off their second T20 World Cup title, having clinched the inaugural tournament in 2007 (also under Dhoni).
