England discard Kevin Pietersen envisaged a tough battle at the upcoming Ashes 2015 even as he believes that Australia will sneak a 2-1 conquest of England when the two teams lock horns in the prestigious series that begins from July 8.

The 35-year-old batsman, who last played for England in January last year, opines that the home side does boast of some big names who will not make it uncomplicated for the visitors, but that Australia will have an edge is certain areas.

“England have some key players in Joe Root, Jimmy Anderson and Alastair Cook,” Pietersen told TalkSport in an exclusive interview. “They all have to have an amazing series because, if they don’t, then we’re in trouble, whereas Australia have a lot of depth in their side.

“The Ashes is going to be very close, much closer than we think. Australia have the edge in certain areas but it’s not going to be three, four or five nil. I’ve gone for two-one to Australia but English conditions will help England and Australia will be tested.”

The tournament this promises to be a thriller of a contest this time around. While Australia clean swept last year’s contest in a dominating fashion, England had won three consecutive titles in the preceding years. It would be interesting to see who pulls off the baton this year!
